In Grade R, we recommend that you start off by introducing your learner to the first 10 numbers. It's important to teach number sense in a practical way as part of your daily routine; for example: "Bring me 4 pencils" or "Touch 2 of your toes".
Many non-abstract concepts like shapes, patterns, more than, less than, story sums, bigger than, smaller than, ordinal numbers, problem-solving, etc. are learned in Grade R, which helps learners build a foundation for Mathematics.
You can find an in-depth webinar for more insight, practical tips and tricks by our Foundation Phase specialist on the
Optimi Learning Portal. Simply click on the Lessons tab, select Mathematics, and access it under the Welcome Lesson, which appears as the very first lesson for each subject.
