My child struggles with maths and numbers, what should I do?
In Grade 1, the basic principles learned in Grade R evolve into more abstract thinking, with more and more unfamiliar concepts, and the number range they are expected to know increases to 100. Keep focusing on number sense; they must be able to split up and combine the numbers and know the properties of each number. To do this, practice number combinations up to 10 every day. Once learners have mastered this, they will be able to understand bigger numbers without difficulty.
The number range again increases in Grade 2 and 3. Focus on mental math and build on existing knowledge to do more difficult equations.
